The construction sector holds a significant position in Malaysia’s economy, serving as a major employer and a significant driver of economic expansion. Estimated at RM 181 billion in 2024, with a projected CAGR of 8.55% from 2024 to 2029, the industry presents promising avenues for growth.
Government initiatives aimed at advancing key infrastructure projects, such as airports, railways, and ports, are geared towards improving accessibility and connectivity. Public investments are expected to rise by +3.9% annually, averaging RM83 billion per year.
Additionally, plans to boost the economy’s productive capacity through ventures like high-tech industrial estates and industrial park expansions across diverse regions further bolster the growth trajectory within the construction sector. Nevertheless, challenges in the sector such as fragmented supply chains, lack of standardization, and budget constraints still loom, and these issues lead to coordination difficulties, quality inconsistencies, and delays in project completion.
In anticipation of these industry developments, Nippon Paint Malaysia is strategically positioned to cater to the evolving needs of the construction sector through our Total Coating and Construction Solutions (TCCS), unified in strength by partnerships with Selleys, Vital Technical Sdn. Bhd. (V-tech), and CMI Construction Material Industry Sdn. Bhd. (CMI), key local players in the industry.
As the adage goes, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’, we understand the importance of a cohesive approach in the construction sector. By offering a comprehensive range of expertise and materials from bare to finish, such as drymix solutions, sealant, adhesive and filler (SAF) solutions, waterproofing solutions, flooring solutions, protective coatings, and architectural coatings, we optimize the supply chain. This ensures efficiency, punctuality, and minimal disruptions in construction schedules.
TCCS further caters to various types of projects, including residential, industrial, and commercial developments. This diversity not only showcases our versatility but also underscores our adaptability to different market segments. With a track record of success across these varied project types, Nippon Paint’s TCCS has a promising future, poised to continue delivering exceptional results and meeting the evolving needs of our clients in every sector.
Additionally, our collaborations with partners are characterized by synergy. While each of our partners operates independently, we merge experiences, technologies, resources, and values for the mutual benefit of all stakeholders. This integrated approach acts as the conductor, harmonizing the efforts of diverse stakeholders within the construction landscape – from all sizes, developers to local general contractors. Beyond mere facilitation, it fosters seamless communication and coordinates efforts throughout the construction process, thereby ensuring our solutions remain agile and effective.“`
While innovation remains crucial, ensuring compatibility with the Industrialized Building Systems (IBS) segment is imperative in Construction 4.0, aligned with Malaysia’s emphasis on prefabricated structures in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12-MP). Nippon Paint’s TCCS is created to seamlessly integrate with every construction stage, embracing IBS methodologies for a unified approach.
As we enter the second stage of TCCS expansion, our focus remains on understanding evolving construction trends and needs. Prioritizing safety and compliance standards in industrial environments, we best align solutions to offer peace of mind for businesses alike. We further enhance wall aesthetics and durability, addressing structural concerns like cracks with expertise. Solutions such as our drymix, tailored for IBS joints, ensure on-site precision. Additionally, our waterproofing solutions provide long-lasting defence against water damage. Combined with our dependable flooring solutions and fire-retardant sealants, industrial buildings, and structure gain extra protection against hazards.
Expanding our services into diverse markets such as Oil and Gas, infrastructure, power, and original equipment manufacturing (OEM), we provide protective coatings against corrosion and environmental challenges. Through continuous research and development, we are committed to evolving to meet customer demands, showcasing our adaptability and responsiveness to emerging challenges and opportunities by offering tailored solutions aligned with the ever-changing landscape of the construction industry.
With the government’s unwavering commitment to affordable housing initiatives like like Residensi Wilayah, Rumah Selangorku, Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR), and Perumahan Inklusif Madani, the residential building subsector stands on the cusp of significant growth. While notable progress has been made, with 21.7% of the five-year target achieved in 2022, we take pride in our contributions to projects such as PPR Kempas Permai, PPR Bintong, Perlis, Selangor Penyayang Flat Sri Aman, Petaling Jaya, Selangor Penyayang Pangsapuri Samudera Port Klang and are dedicated to meeting the needs for quality solutions in the housing sector.
Simultaneously, urban renewal projects under the Urban Renewal Act offer opportunities for community revitalization. With 139 redevelopment areas totalling 1,297 hectares, there is immense potential for transformation. Nippon Paint’s TCCS is positioned to play a pivotal role in these systematic projects. Through collaborative efforts, we aim to rejuvenate aging areas, creating vibrant hubs for residents and Malaysians alike.
Lastly, recognizing the importance of maintenance in ensuring the long-term durability and sustainability of construction projects is just as crucial. Dealing with industry pain points like hairline cracks, powdery finish, blistering, peeling paint, moulding, hollowness, falling tiles, water seepage and others early is important, as they can lead to structural issues down the line. Through TCCS, combined with the technical know-how from our partners, we effectively address these challenges across maintenance projects of any scale. Together, in unity, we play our part in solidifying Malaysia’s construction landscapes and ensuring a better society for all.

This innovative approach uses the power of storytelling to introduce young readers and parents to the concept of indoor air wellness, using an imaginative approach to highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy home environment.
The story centers around Ray, a whimsical character who helps children understand the critical role of clean air in keeping their homes safe and healthy.
In 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) updated its Ambient Air Quality Guidelines, reflecting new evidence that air pollution is more harmful to human health than previously thought. This raises particular concern for Malaysia, where ambient air quality standards for many pollutants still exceed both the WHO’s 2005 and 2021 guidelines.
Alarmingly, over 60% of Malaysians are exposed to poor indoor air conditions, indicating that only 4 out of 10 homes provide a safe environment for families. Nippon Paint’s “SuperGuardian, who?” storybook tackles this pressing issue, offering families an engaging way to learn about the importance of indoor air wellness in everyday family life.
“Two years ago, we launched the Wellness Outreach Program to raise indoor health awareness among kids nationwide reaching over 150 schools with fun, educational sessions and coloring contests. Through our partnership with Wizard Within, La gourmet and our wellness product range, we aim to make indoor wellness a priority for every family.” Parents and children alike were enthralled by the book-read sessions & exclusive insights with the book creators.
Their indoor wellness product range such as VirusGuard & Spot-less Plus, are designed to combat harmful pollutants like viruses, bacteria, and formaldehyde, perfectly complements the themes explored in the storybook. This emphasis on Nippon Paint’s innovative evidence-based solutions indoor paint, alongside the captivating narrative, resonated deeply with visitors seeking practical ways to improve their indoor environment.
This collaboration between Nippon Paint and Wizard Within marks a promising chapter in Nippon Paint’s dedication to wellness creativity and innovation. Through SuperGuardian, who? the brand is introducing families to a new way of prioritizing air wellness, blending creativity with purposeful products to encourage long-term awareness.
