Nippon Paint Malaysia Creates a Haven for Mothers and Children

Kuala Lumpur, 6 May 2024 – In conjunction with this year’s Mother’s Day, Nippon Paint Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“Nippon Paint”) delved into the transformative power of colours, recognising the ability to create nurturing environments that promote emotional balance and wellness for both mothers and children alike.

In the years following the pandemic, people have increasingly prioritised their mental well being and sought to create safe havens, particularly within their homes. Research has also highlighted the psychological and direct impact of colours on human mood and behaviour1, further reinforcing the significance of mindful colour choices. Nippon Paint maintains its dedication to this year’s theme of Colour Trends2, inspiring individuals to embrace a lifestyle where they can live better, feel better, and ultimately become better versions of themselves.

Creating a better environment for postpartum mothers

Nippon Paint shed light on postpartum depression in Malaysia, noting the importance of creating a nurturing and soothing environment for mothers during this critical period. Postpartum depression unfortunately affects about 3.9% to 22.8% of Malaysian women, and globally, up to 40 million women each year and almost within the first year after childbirth3. The environment in which a mother recovers postpartum greatly influences her ability to bond with her baby. “As much are we know colours can impact our psychology, we would like to show all mothers how we can use colours to make you feel better and live better, ultimately turn your living space into a haven for the baby and especially for you,” Jo-Lynn Yap, Senior Manager of Group Colour Leadership & Strategic Marketing at NIPSEA.

Cool colors, such as blue and green, create a calming atmosphere, while warm colors, like red and orange, energize and cozy up spaces. Designed for Nippon Paint, this guide helps in choosing the right colors for interior design.

Presented by Jo-Lynn Yap, the slides above show that colours have different psychological effects, all of which could really play a role in the mother’s mental well-being up to the children’s growth.

Cleaner Indoor Air Quality for Children

Statistics from the Malaysia Clean Air Society found that Malaysian adults typically spend about 14 hours indoors daily, while children spend around 90% of their time indoors and infants nearly 100%. This makes our indoor spaces critical for our growth and daily well-being, with interior design and wall colours playing a significant role in our mental health and overall wellness. Contributing to a safer, healthier, and more hygienic indoor environment, Nippon Paint’s Spot-less Plus, a hydrophilic stain-repellent paint, not only offers high water and stain resistance but also fights off viruses and bacteria, making indoor environments safer, healthier, and more hygienic. “Nippon Paint goes beyond providing paint; we strive to support mothers by creating spaces that enhance their living environments. There is also a transformative power of colours in creating serene spaces for both little ones and busy moms. From crafting calming nurseries using protective technology4 to playing with paint illusions for spacious or cosy vibes, our goal for this Mother’s Day was to encourage parents to design functional and mood-boosting environments,” as Gloria Soong, Colour Studio Manager, Nippon Paint Malaysia highlighted. Especially useful for busy, multitasking moms, “Us moms wear a million hats these days, juggling work, children, and jumping from schedule to schedule, so we really want to empower mothers through colours in their spaces. Did you know that having energising colours in spaces like your workroom could really give you that extra push to power through your busy day? Alternatively, using calm and light colours in your rest areas could benefit your downtime and, even better, make it more spacious and airier.” added Gloria. The events highlighted Nippon Paint’s innovative wellness range, such as the Odour-less AirCare range, known for absorbing indoor pollutants like harmful Formaldehyde or Anti-Formaldehyde with Active Carbon Technology, all while being anti-fungus, ammonia-free and ultra-low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), best for busy families. Additionally, the VirusGuard is formulated with anti-viral and anti- bacterial performance and has proven to be effective against COVID-19 and HCOV, which causes respiratory infections. It is also anti-fungus, has anti-mould properties and is also near zero VOC, making them highly recommended for interiors for children and their care as well as medical facilities. Ultimately giving families one less thing to worry about in their homes. This Mother’s Day, we are committed to continuing to be Malaysia’s number 1 paint brand for families through innovative paint solutions and showcasing our ongoing commitment to supporting families across Malaysia. At Nippon Paint, we strive not just to create safe and healthy environments but also to create the Most Beautiful Homes, making it our vision for this year.
